Maternal Health in Sierra Leone

Women meet about the savings box in the village of Sawula, in the Pujehun district of Sierra Leone.

Before now, a woman couldn’t afford to take her child to the health clinic if her husband didn’t have enough money.

Now, women come together to save money and access loans, which means they have more power and fredom over their lives.

Foday Konneh, father of four, says: ‘When I’m in need of money, my wife goes and gets money from the box, and that keeps our lives going.’
