Harvest Festival Events & Services

For a rural community such as the Beaminster Team area Harvest is a particularly special time. Even for those of us not connected with agriculture, the roads full of tractors and combines are a reminder how much our community is built on, and relies upon, the hard work of our farmers.

And so at this time of year Harvest celebrations aren’t a mere abstract as they might be in the middle of a city. Instead Harvest is a time that links us with the very core of our surroundings and community, the fields around our villages, the crops, the farms, and other associated businesses.

It is a time to give thanks for the harvest. And we do so in many ways. There are Harvest Festival services across the Beaminster Team. There are also Harvest suppers and other celebrations of thanksgiving.

Do come along to some of the services, meals, and other celebrations listed below. And if you are hosting a Harvest event not featured, just email beaminsterteammedia@gmail.com to have yours added.

We’ll be adding more events as they are announced.

Meplash Harvest Festival – 16th October

This year the harvest festival service will be celebrating 175 years of the Melplash show. The traditional harvest service will start at 4pm and will be followed by a buffet in the church. All harvest offerings will be auctioned during the harvest buffet supper. We will be joined by many of the Melplash Agricultural Society members including the current President Nigel Jones. Due to the large number of people expected to attend please can you advise Barbara Jenkins via email jenkinsbarbara@btinternet.com or telephone 01308 487815 by 6th October how many from your family will be attending. This will help us to ensure that we have adequate seating in the church and to establish numbers for catering purposes. We look forward to seeing you on 16th October at 4pm. Salway Ash Harvest Festival takes place this year on Sunday 9th October at 11.00am for the church service, and after at the school for Harvest Lunch.

Lunch will be ploughman’s, pudding, and tea or coffee, with a soft-drink bar or bring your own bottle. Entry is by ticket to help with catering numbers, but instead of a charge the organisers are asking ticket- holders to pay what they can afford via anonymous envelopes.
