The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update Friday 8th July 2022
Following on from the report in last week’s Pew News of the death of Mary Burton, it is with great sadness that I write of the death of another faithful church member. Dr Colin Smith was a larger than life member of the church in Beaminster. A former Church Warden, PCC member, and member of the choir right up to his hospitalisation a month ago. Colin was also a member of local choirs with his wonderful bass voice always prominent. Colin was a published author with his wonderful Green Mountain Doctor being a favourite of many and he chaired the Team Council Editors’ meeting for many years, sat around his drawing room table and was a monthly contributor to the TN with his Rachel and Melvin articles. Funeral arrangements are yet to be confirmed but a possible date is Thursday 28th July at 2pm. May his soul rest in peace and rise in glory.
Thank you to everyone who has given me matching donations for the Bishop’s £10.00 Talent challenge. So far the total stands at £155.00. I am hoping that this will increase over the coming days so that I can create a fund to help alleviate those who will face hardship as the forecast financial difficulties bite. If you would like to support me please put your donation in an envelope and mark it Talent and let me have it. In advance I thank you for your generosity and support.
It was lovely to see such good support for Sarah at last Sunday’s ordination service in Salisbury Cathedral and a proud moment when her training incumbents from the Golden Cap Team placed her Deacon’s stole around her shoulders which was a gift from the Beaminster Team.
Online Worship at Home video services continue every week. The online community continues to be an important part of our church – such as our increasingly popular Gin Church. As usual each Sunday’s video service will be available on the day before. We hope you continue to enjoy our weekly Rev Chat video. And in person in Beaminster you can join us for Baby & Toddler Group on Monday mornings and our Walk In Wednesday social gathering on Wednesday mornings.
