Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update Friday 29th July 2022

As many of you will have heard or read, the Lambeth Conference of Bishops from across the World Wide Anglican Communion is now taking place having been postponed twice due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many of the bishops from Sudan and South Sudan are attending, some with their wives. Rev Jane Williams, Rector of Bride Valley is hosting Bishop Rufus who is the Assistant Bishop of Lainya of the Equatorial Province, and his wife Mama Remi from Monday 8th August until Saturday 13th and we will be hosting them in the Beaminster Team on Wednesday 10th.

I will collect Bishop Rufus and Mama Remi and bring them to the midweek Eucharist and then they will stay and meet people at Walk in Wednesday and enjoy the hospitality we provide. I hope that many of you will take the opportunity to come along and meet them and to learn first hand about the life of the church and the present situation in South Sudan.

There are many activities going on in the Team at the moment and I would like to thank everyone at Drimpton for the excellent flower festival weekend and cream teas last week. It was lovely to lead the flower festival songs of praise service and to meet with our Christian sisters and brothers from Netherhay Chapel.

On Sunday 31st July Jo is leading worship at Mosterton Bands on the Green event starting at 10am. On the day there will be a Tea Church Service in The Comrades Hall Broadwindsor at 3.30pm. It would be lovely to see you at one of these times of worship.

Finally the weekly update on the Ten Pound Challenge. I am enormously thankful for the outstanding response and generosity that has been shown in helping me raise funds to establish a fund to be able to help people across the team who are facing hardship during the financial crisis we are entering, especially that caused by the ever increasing costs. From the £10 note given to me by Bishop Steven, you have helped that to grow to £408.85 (as of today) and I am aware of a significant donation that will be sent to me in due course. You can still help by placing your gift in an envelope marked Talen’ and either leaving it in the Team Office or giving it to me when you see me.

David
