The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update Friday 11th November 2022
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Elfrida Savigear last Saturday Morning. Elfrida was a pioneer in the ordination of women to the Priesthood having suffered much abuse from male opponents. She served with great dignity and kindness in Hereford, Coventry, Bath and Wells, and Durham Diocese before joining us in the Beaminster Team nearly twelve years ago as an Associate Priest. Elf also undertook the role of Deanery Training Officer and arranged and led many courses. She was also a great friend to all the other teams in the Deanery, helping them as and when she could.
Elf’s funeral will be held in St Mary’s Beaminster on Monday 28th November at 2.00 pm, she will spend the night before in Church. Thanks to Jo and the babies and toddler group members for agreeing to cancel that morning so that this can take place.
It is still not too late to book into next Saturday’s Advent Quiet day at Netherbury Village Hall. Rev Dr David Campbell will be leading us into exploring the importance of Watching and Waiting for the season. If you would like to know more or book up please speak to myself or Mrs Jacky Bush.
This year’s Archbishop of York’s Advent book is called Sleepers Wake and has been written by former Bishop of Salisbury Nicholas Holtham. In the book he argues that climate change and the environment is a spiritual crisis to which we have not yet fully woken. Sleepers Wake is divided into four weeks of daily reflections, which draw on science, politics, theology, poetry, art, and bible passages to explore climate change and the need for urgent action. If you would like a copy please contact Anne in the office.
