The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update Friday 27th January 2023
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday 22nd February. As in previous years I offer the following reading: The book that we will be using in the team is the Archbishop of Canterbury’s offering, ‘Failure’ written by Bishop Emma Iveson.
This is six sessions with guided study material. The book tackles the area of what Jesus said about sin, mistakes and messing stuff up. There are many others, as always, including Richard Rhor’s ‘Jesus’ Alternative Plan’. Based on the Sermon on the Mount it is a new proclamation of the power of the cross to transform Human History.
Also, you may like to consider ‘The way of Thomas Merton’, A prayer journey through Lent. This book is based on the major writings of Thomas Merton. Finally this week, and closer to home, Andrew Daunton Fear and Mary Treacher edited a book of readings for Lent and daily life by their Mother Alison Daunton-Fear called ‘Treasures From A Deep Mine’ which is a collection of 40 talks given by Alison Daunton-Fear, a gifted speaker whose ministry spanned a large part of the twentieth century.
If you would like a copy of any of these books they can be ordered through the Church Office and prices may vary according to volume ordered. The deadline for ordering any of these publications through the Office is Wednesday 8 February.
It is also time to order Easter Candles and transfers and Palm Crosses. For help with this please speak to Anne in the Office as soon as possible.
