The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update Friday 3rd February 2023
I am sorry to start this week’s Hub with the sad news of another death. Last Thursday we heard of the death of George Solly in Netherbury. George served both as a PCC member and Church Warden for many years. He also sang in the choir until a couple of years ago. Our thoughts and prayers go to his wife Squilla and his two sons as they prepare for a private family burial in Netherbury Churchyard next week. They will be holding a Thanksgiving Service when the weather improves in the Spring.
I presently have a number of Foundation Governors positions to fill. There are vacancies at Parrett and Axe School in Mosterton and at The Beaminster Senior School. If you would like to know more about what this involves please speak to me and I will arrange for you to meet with the Chair of the Governing Body who will explain the commitment that would be required.
Last week I suggested books for reading during Lent and said I would offer others this week. ‘An Easter Book of Days – Meeting the characters of the cross and resurrection’ is written by the Bishop of St Asaph, Gregory. K. Cameron and is a follow up to his 2021 Advent book which I recommended. The book offers 25 reflections and includes such people as Claudia Procula (Pilate’s wife), Longinus the soldier and the donkey’s foal. You may also like ‘A Place For Us – A Lent course based on West Side Story’ written by Lavinia Byrne and Jane McBride with poetry by Phil Lane.
A reminder that the deadline for anyone wanting to order a copy of the suggested Lent study book, ‘Failure’ by Emma Iveson through the Church Office is Wednesday 8th February.
