Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update Friday 17th March 2023

As we continue our journey through Lent, the Tuesday Lent Book Study group have been having some lively discussions on Failure, which is the title of this year’s Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book written by Bishop Emma Ineson. So far we have looked at all elements of what failure means and how to fail well. Last Tuesday we explored Sin including how to do Sin better. One group participant asked the question ‘How do you understand Sin if you understand the story of Original Sin as a myth?’

This Tuesday we will be considering The Failing Church. The group meets each Tuesday morning in Beaminster for one hour starting at 09.45 and you would be most welcome to join us for the remaining sessions.

This week I have been finalising the Holy Week and Easter offerings. They follow the pattern of previous years including the daily Holy Week Reflections/Meditations prepared by the Staff Team. If you would like to join in with others sharing this time of silent reflection then 10.00 am each morning, except Good Friday when they form the first half hour of the three hour service starting at 12 noon. Copies to collect will be available in Beaminster Church or the Church Office. They will also be available on our media platforms including the website. You could also have copies emailed to you by request.

I will write more on other services in Holy Week on next week’s Hub.

Thank you to those who turned up at last week’s APCMs and to those who were elected to PCCs for the first time or re-elected for the umpteenth time. There will be more opportunities to do so this week with further meetings in Mosterton on Monday, Netherbury on Tuesday and Salway Ash on Thursday. All three meetings will commence at 7.00 pm. I look forward to welcoming you at these meetings.

As I know that this is sent out to parishes on a Thursday, you may like to pop down to Toller Porcorum Village Hall this Saturday morning (18th) to join them for the annual Church Big Breakfast. Excellent value for money and great company is guaranteed.
