Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub Covid-19 update 29th January, 2021

I can hardly believe that we are at the end of January already, which means that it is only 330 days until Christmas Day. Once again I pass on my gratitude and thanks to every one of you for your wonderful help and support at this difficult time.

Following the meeting on Zoom with the rural deans and bishop’s staff this week Bishop Nicholas informed us that APCMs should presently be held at the usual times but extended to the end of May. Therefore this coming week I will be sending out proposed dates to PCC Secretaries. A number of Treasurers have already sent out the prepared accounts for approval so that they can be examined in time for the annual meetings and I thank them for their due diligence. A growing number of PCCs are now feeling more at ease with meetings via Zoom and I have arranged meetings with them. I will be pleased to do so with any others if it is felt appropriate for all members.

As we approach Ash Wednesday, it is most likely that collective worship will remain suspended. However, I will be exploring with the staff team and Harry the possibility of producing a short time of prayer and reflection which will be available for you all online. Bishop Nicholas will be leading a service from the cathedral for use all to share and I will forward the link nearer the time. As time passes I will continue my conversations with church wardens about the safety of returning fully to public worship. Of course our weekly offering of online and Sunday Evening prayers continues (please see Zoom details below).  Due to a private appointment, the Tuesday Lunchtime Bible study will be starting back next week (9th February).

I have been asked by our Team Safeguarding Officers to share the following statement from the Diocesan Safeguarding Team with you and to ask you to take the action required.

Heather Bland, the Diocesan Safeguarding advisor, retired last month. Please could all churches in the Beaminster Team update their Safeguarding policies, and the Safeguarding Posters that are on display in all churches, with details of the new Advisers? It is very important that up to date information is available on the posters
