Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub Covid-19 update 19th February 2021

I think that at last there is a tiny glimpse of light at the end of what has been, to date, a very long period of darkness and gloom. As the vaccination roll out continues at a pace and the recorded number of cases, hospitalisations and deaths due to Covid-19 are lessening, I think that we can begin to look at how we can put into place a programme for longer term recovery across all aspects of our communities.

Like most others, I will be watching with an enhanced air of expectation to the Prime Minister’s announcement next Monday and once we have a clearer understanding from him about lifting the present lockdown policy, I will begin a consultation with Church Wardens and key parish personnel. In the meanwhile, let us continue to play our part in protecting our NHS and those who remain vulnerable at this time.

At our staff meeting earlier this week we looked at how we can continue to be witnesses to Christ during Lent and Holy Week. Those who have taken up reading the book I recommended, Celtic Lent 40 Days of Devotion to Easter, can take part in reflecting on the devotions through the Tuesday Lunchtime Fellowship at 12 noon with Fiona or at Thursday Community Prayers and the Sunday Prayers at 3.30pm. I have distributed one hundred copies of the Church of England #LiveLent booklets to those who requested them across the team.

We will be preparing the annual Holy Week reflections and I will give more information on these next week. Fiona will be helping any church that would like to create an Easter Garden in the churchyards or in your own front gardens for people to see whilst out on their daily walks and she will also make suggestions on how you can create prayer space in your churches or churchyards as a reflective space during this period. I will ask her to write about this to attach to next week’s update. One other idea I have heard about is that churches are being encouraged to decorate their churches for Easter Day even if we are unable to gather for worship and to invite people to visit for a time of personal prayer. I will find out more about this and write more next week.

In the meanwhile, I hope that you are able to keep a holy and blessed Lent and why not join us for Zoom Coffee this Sunday at 10.00 am the link is below.
