From the Hub Covid-19 update 26th February 2021
Following the Prime Minister’s publication of his road map out of lockdown, I think that we can at last see a chink of light at the end of was has been a very long, dark tunnel. In reality and immediately, very little for most of us has changed. We are still told to stay at home to save lives and to protect the NHS. Church provision for life events such as baptism, weddings, and funerals will not change for a short while. If all goes to plan, on 21st June numbers at these services will grow thanks to the wider recovery strategy, as we move towards the dawning of new life.
As I said last week, I have a plan to put forward on how we can uphold and celebrate Holy Week and Easter. I have written alongside this update to all church and chapel wardens asking for their help in holding conversations with church members and the wider community. I would like their thoughts about returning to collective worship in changing circumstances.
I will also discuss this with the staff at our monthly meeting on Monday to see what staffing will be available if a decision to return to worship is desired. I know that there will be those who cannot wait to be able to return to worship, but I also know that there are those who will wish to take a more cautious approach. And there will be those who wish to continue worshipping via our online service for the foreseeable future. None of these options are right or wrong and I respect the individual decisions that will be made by everyone.
Bishop Karen will be Commissioning the newly trained LPA’s and LWL’s in the Deanery this Sunday afternoon at 4.00 pm via Zoom. The Beaminster Team will welcome Vivien McMurray and Angie Alexander to the team in their newly discerned Lay Pastoral Assistant Ministry at this service.
