The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update 25th June 2021
There have been no further updates or changes to the Covid regulations this week, although there was momentary excitement when I was sent an email saying that congregations would be permitted to sing behind their masks. But please do not get excited as this applies to churches and chapels in Wales only. Thank you to the few who sent me their thoughts on how we approach singing once the ban is lifted. I am aware that not every congregation met last week so if you do have any thoughts on this please get in touch and let me know.
As we prepare for the next round of PCC meetings there are a number of diocesan wide topics we will need to engage with. These include the Generous Giving Campaign in the autumn to support parishes who are in financial difficulties, especially with paying parish share. Due to the pandemic there was an underpayment of £1.9 million which has led to central staff cuts and the loss last year of four stipend clergy posts and a further five (possibly six) posts this year. If the debt is not reduced there may be a further six next year.
We also need to engage with the new Diocesan Mission and Pastoral Plan and the Living in Love & Faith Report on Christian teaching and learning about identity, sexuality, relationship, and marriage. Alongside all of this is our continuation of the conversations within the team which began before lockdown on Church 2030 The way forward for the Beaminster Area. All in all, a comprehensive agenda.
Just a reminder that we will celebrate St Peter’s Day and the 25th anniversary of my ordination to the priestly ministry this Tuesday with Holy Communion at St Mary’s Beaminster at 7pm. I would be delighted if you could join me on this day. The preacher will be the Very Revd David Shearlock who tells me that he has trimmed down what he has to say to 50 minutes so that you can get home in time for the England v Germany game.
Online Worship at Home video services continue even though churches are open. The online community continues to be an important part of our church. As usual each Sunday’s video service will be available on the day before. There are weekly videos for children and schools. We hope you continue to enjoy our weekly Rev Chat podcast. And places are available for Monday’s baby and toddler group.
