Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update 9th July 2021

In the autumn of 2019 Jo and I held a series of conversations across the team on the theme of Church 2030 and how the church
will need to respond to the changing environment we were living in. Little did we know what was around the corner in just a few months from those meetings. The Covid-19 pandemic has not only ravaged the world leading to countless deaths and long-term health complications but it has also highlighted the fragility of many small rural church communities including some of our own team.

Having had the time to review the many comments that were given at those meetings, I have been able to put into categories the most common answers from both what people felt that we did well as a team and those things we did not do quite so well.
The next step of Church 2030: The Way Forward is to continue those conversations we embarked on eighteen months ago and
consider together how we all as the people of God across the Beaminster Team can play our part in the mixed ecology of the post pandemic church. Simply put, how do we work together and support both the traditional and new forms of church that it is clear are now emerging.

I would like to invite you to an open meeting on Monday 26th July at 7.00 pm in St Mary’s, Beaminster to help to begin shaping the mission and ministry of the churches across the area. I have invited The Venerable Patrick Evans, Archdeacon Emeritus of Canterbury to Chair the meeting and there will be a short presentation from Jo and myself leading to a wider debate from the floor of the meeting. I look forward to welcoming you on the night.

The Bishop of London who chairs the Church of England’s covid response is still awaiting any government guidelines for consideration by churches from July 19th. As Soon as we have them, I will keep you all informed.

Online Worship at Home video services continue even though churches are open. The online community continues to be an important part of our church. As usual each Sunday’s video service will be available on the day before. There are weekly videos for children and schools. We hope you continue to enjoy our weekly Rev Chat podcast. And places are available for Monday’s baby and toddler group. You may be interested in joining us for a performance by the Keld Ensemble at St Mary’s Beaminster.
