Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update 30th July 2021

Thank you to all those who joined us for the meeting on Monday evening to continue the conversations on Church 2030 – The way forward.

I felt that it was a very constructive meeting with positive dialogue on the comments and suggestions from the previous conversations in the autumn of 2019.

Anne will be helping us to highlight the areas of discussion that will allow for further conversations. I received a number of positive comments on our statement on the website that we are 15 Churches – One Community, to which I would add (of faith).

There was also a growing train of thought that we could consider changing the name of the Team.

There was also strong support for David Ennals’ passionate appeal for help from the National Church/Commissioners in maintaining our historical buildings and for a cut in the bureaucracy of the church. Chairman for the evening, The Venerable Patrick Evans, reminded the meeting that we also could cut the bureaucracy and admin in our own team. Clearly there is still need for continued conversations.

It was with deep sadness that I had to report the death of Martin Schellenberg last week. I will forever be grateful for the actions taken by members of Beaminster Choir that evening and the support they received from the Police, Ambulance, and Air Ambulance services. I would also like to thank the many people who have sent messages of condolence and I have passed these on to Alex and her family.

It is likely that Martin’s funeral service will be in St Mary’s Beaminster at 11.00 am on Tuesday 10th August. We will certainly miss Martin and his wonderful skills and energy. He will be a great loss to the world of Organ and Choral music.

In our cycle of prayer for the parishes, we are holding South Perrott in prayer this week. Please pray for their work within the community and the preparations for their Flower Festival weekend which is coming up soon.

Thanks to all who came along to Baby & Toddler Group – the group takes a break for August but will be back in September.

Online Worship at Home video services continue even though churches are open. The online community continues to be an important part of our church. As usual each Sunday’s video service will be available on the day before. We hope you continue to enjoy our weekly Rev Chat podcast.

David
