As we look to return to a more normal Covid life, accepting that we are going to have to work out how we live with this virus, I
have been thinking about how to reintroduce some of our ways of church life that had to be suspended. I think that hand cleansing and face mask wearing will remain part of our lives for the foreseeable future, along with respect for each other with social distancing.
I feel that we can now return to opening our churches during the day and suspending the written register of visitors. I see no reason why we should not leave the QR code posters for use. The one way systems around the churches which for some have been almost impossible can now be stopped. Those churches that serve refreshments can return to doing so. As I have tried to do throughout this strange time, I will leave each church community to decide how and when they feel safe and able to do these things.
The Generous Giving Campaign which I mentioned in last week’s FTH will take place from 12th September and into October. It
will start with a week of prayer for discernment and how we can engage. The second Sunday will allow us to consider God’s generosity and how we serve a generous God who has blessed creation with abundance. We then take time in the third week to offer praise and thanksgiving for God’s generosity, and then as the campaign draws to an end, we consider how we are going to respond. The average giving per church member in Salisbury Diocese is £10 per week and if it could increase that to £12 this would go a long way to allow parishes to maintain the present levels of full time clergy. Online Worship at Home video services continue even though churches are open. The online community continues to be an important part of our church. As usual each Sunday’s video service will be available on the day before. We hope you continue to enjoy our weekly Rev Chat video.
