Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update 15th October 2021

I would like to begin this week by thanking all those who have responded positively to the teaching and preaching we have given over the past month on generous giving and our personal responses to God’s generosity for us. A number of churches have reported that they have new members signing up to regular giving by standing order and also that a number of very generous donations have been made. If you are still considering your response and would like to know how you can support your church with regular giving, then please speak with your church treasurer, or myself or Jo. Once again a heartfelt thank you to you all for your faithful generosity and especially to those who have responded to this campaign.

Over the past week I have attended six PCC meetings and have a further six in this round over the next few weeks. One of the constant areas of concern is of course how each church is going to be able to meet its financial commitments and I have already partly addressed this in the paragraph above.

In the past we have been reluctant to look at the longer view and vision for our churches as part of a wider team. There has always been a fear of loss of personal identity rather than identity as part of the wider community of God. However, I noticed during discussions this week that there has been a realisation that clinging to our local churches as we have in the past has prevented mission and outreach in its truest sense. And this leads to decline and despondency. We have at last begun to realise that we need to reach out to our wider communities to talk with them about the church as a community asset. Before we can do this we need to have a vision and strategy for people to understand and buy into. As part of the Church 2030 consultations I will be organising a vision setting workshop early in the new year for us all to begin this process and I will update you on this in the coming weeks.

Please don’t forget the vocation evening on Monday in Beaminster at 7pm this is an opportunity to look at how we can respond to God’s call in our lives. Please also pray for the appointment of the right person to be the new headteacher at Beaminster St Mary’s Academy.

A reminder that the baby and toddler group is back on Mondays through October, you can find more details and book your free ticket on this page.

Online Worship at Home video services continue even though churches are open. The online community continues to be an important part of our church. As usual each Sunday’s video service will be available on the day before. We hope you continue to enjoy our weekly Rev Chat video.
