Rector’s Weekly Update

The Beaminster Area Team
From the Hub update February 4th 2022

Jo and I have looked at a number of books and courses for us to use across the team for this year’s Lent Course. The deciding factor came down to the groups and leaders being able to use them without added complications such as having to source and download film clips and videos. We have settled on the book Women of Holy Week – An Easter Journey in nine stories. Written by Paula Gooder, writer and lecturer in biblical studies and also Canon Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral, London. This book is beautifully illustrated by the Rev Ally Barrett, author, hymn writer, and presently Chaplain of St Catherine’s College Cambridge.

The Dean of Southwark, The Very Rev Andrew Nunn says about this book ‘ From the sidelines…nine women are brought into the centre of the drama of Holy Week and we are the beneficiaries of the stories that they tell.’

We hope to be able to run courses across the team and if you would be willing to lead a group and would like advice or help please contact me. We will also be running a central group in Beaminster and an online course – more information on these will follow. To order copies please contact Anne in the office no later than Thursday 17th February. The price of the books will depend on the volume we are going to order as Anne will ensure we get the best discount available, however it will be around £9 .

I was informed earlier this week that Elfrida Savigear, our former Associate Priest in the team, has moved into Grassington House, Dorchester for ongoing care due to her deteriorating health. Please hold Elf in your prayers. We will always be grateful for the insightfulness and support that Elf brought to the churches across the team. Should you wish to visit or write to her I do have fuller details.

Online Worship at Home video services continue even though churches are open. The online community continues to be an important part of our church – such as Thursday Evening Prayers and our increasingly popular Gin Church. As usual each Sunday’s video service will be available on the day before. We hope you continue to enjoy our weekly Rev Chat video. And in person in Beaminster you can join us for Baby & Toddler Group on Monday mornings and our Walk In Wednesday social gathering on Wednesday mornings.
