Advent Reflection – Day 10

An Advent Reflection by Revd Elfrida Savigear.

Read

Luke 1:31-33 And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Reflect

Can you imagine yourself still in your teens, but already engaged to be married within the local community? No doubt you are excited but not sure what this really means. But when the Angel Gabriel appeared, with a reassuring welcome, Mary was told she would conceive a son, to be called Jesus. Can you think of a time when you have been aware of God speaking to you in some way?

Luke also stresses that Jesus will be the Messiah from the line of David – what amazing news for Mary to accept.

Pray

God of the universe, help me to recognise the enormity of your love for Creation, for Mary mother of your Son, Jesus, and all faithful witnesses.

Act

May we catch a new understanding of commitment and service as we go about our everyday life. May we strengthen each other as we meet on pilgrimage.
