Ride and Stride Report

The annual cycle tour of the parishes was again a roaring success.

“On Ride & Stride Day roads with grass strip centres and few passing places led the car bearing your veteran riders and their support team to fourteen churches spread from Salway Ash in the south to South Perrott in the north, and Blackdown in the west to Toller Porcorum in the east,” writes Barry Gibbs.

“This record breaking tour of the Beaminster Area Team often defeated the digital sat-nav only to be rescued by the analogue skills of Philip with his OS map. Lunch in Broadwindsor revived flagging legs and energies – ‘why did the way to many of the church porches involve a sloping path or steps?'”

“We were impressed by the obvious love and care bestowed on the various buildings by very small communities. The warmest welcome was at Holy Trinity Blackdown where we walked in to a church packed with people enjoying a coffee morning with many stalls.”

“We thank our generous sponsors. It’s not too late for others to sponsor us ex post facto – you may pledge by email to phsaunders@pobroadband.co.uk or barryetjean@gmail.com.”
