Marathon Walk Aftermath

Well they did it. Walking almost 30 miles Reverends David and Jo completed their pilgrimage between all the churches of the Beaminster Area Team. It was a massive task to complete in one day and they should be heartily congratulated on their effort. Thanks to everyone who supported the dynamic duo on their walk – especially the churches that provided a welcome and refreshments along the way. While the walk is over the mission is not, and so if you haven’t done so already please do donate. Every little helps.

You can donate at the church office, hand the reverends bundles of cash or donate simply, easily and securely via the paypal button below.

We enjoyed lots of great coverage of the event. With David and Jo appearing on the diocese website and The Bridport News. We even got a mention on Wessex FM. Fingers crossed we’ll also be in the Church Times tomorrow.

“The walk itself was a real physical challenge for Jo and myself, but we were blessed by the weather conditions,” said Revd Canon David Baldwin. “During the day we covered 29.4 miles and arrived at the finish at Toller Porcorum at 21:10 a little behind schedule. The walk gave us a chance to visit parts of our parishes we don’t normally visit on a day to day basis – and discover many of these are covered in nettles. We also had a welcome opportunity to pray for those parishes and their needs as we walked through them.”

“The whole day and since has engendered a renewal in team spirit and closer bonding with the places we serve. We got the earth of the parishes in our boots and in our hearts. It also allowed parishioners to see the importance of mission over mere building maintenance. We want to thank all who supported us on the day and those that have donated. Current figures put donations at just over £2500 and we expect the total to be over £3500 when we’ve counted all the pounds and pennies. “

I caught up with David and Jo ten miles into their amazing effort at Broadwindsor and here are some photos and videos I captured from their rest stop.

So what’s the plan for next year? I already hear plans of possibly walking to Salisbury Cathedral. But keep that under your hat for now.
