Holy Week Reflection – Sharing in Holy Week

At the beginning of Holy Week in the book we recommended, Draw Near: Life Giving Habits for Lent – 40 Daily Reflections, Kate Bruce writes, “Imitation of Christ is at the heart of discipleship. To do this we must understand what we are attempting to embody. As we share in this Holy Week. We will identify examples of Jesus. Sacrificial behaviour which we can practise in order to grow as faithful disciples.”

Now take time to ponder your identity – You are loved by God. Valued seen and called by name. You do not need to prove anything to anyone. You are free to serve in faithful discipleship.

What does it mean to serve in faithful discipleship? This is what I hope we have spent time thinking about during Lent. In the opening introduction to the Ash Wednesday liturgy it says, “I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by the reading and meditation on God’s holy word.”

Now take time to look back over your journey through Lent this year. What has helped you draw nearer to God or to others? Have you built new habits that you might take into Easter and beyond?

The daily reflections in Draw Near. have invited us to develop a rhythm of life that will help us to grow as a disciple of Christ day by day, especially as we prepare to celebrate the mystery of God’s saving love at Easter.

Now use the prayer for Holy Week.

Almighty God, as we stand at the foot of the cross of your Son, help us to see and know your love for us, so that in humility, love and joy we may place at his feet all that we are; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen

Now use the time left to you to think about what your response to the Easter Acclamation; Will be.

Alleluia, Christ is Risen.

He is Risen indeed, Alleluia.
