We have appointed a new organist for St Mary’s Church Beaminster. Dr Peter Nardone has been covering over the summer and liked us so much he decided to apply for the job. We look forward to some exciting music making to come. Welcome Peter.
Peter is a freelance musician who lives locally. He was born in Renfrewshire and sang as a boy in Paisley Abbey Choir from the age of twelve. He attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama both as a part-time student, and later as an undergraduate. During these three years he trained as an organist with piano as second study and also assisted at Paisley Abbey.
In March 2000 Peter took up the post of Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral and Artistic Director of the Chelmsford Cathedral Festival and later took a similar position at Worcester Cathedral in 2012.
Peter is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and, until recently, worked frequently as a singer and occasional conductor with The King’s Consort. He was a member of the Monteverdi Choir for seven years and also holds an Honorary Fellowship of the Guild of Church Musicians.
On his appointment Peter said, “Beaminster Church has shown to me nothing but warmth and welcome since I started playing for services in the summer. I am looking forward to working with all those who lead the worship of God in this special place and getting to know members of the congregation and choir a little better.”
