December 2024 Eco Church Update

What does an ECO Christmas look like?

Pre-Christmas Clean Up: Come and join the Litter Pick in Beaminster on Saturday 21 December. Meet outside Barton House Surgery at 9.30 for instructions. After an hour return to the Skyrm Room for cake and hot drink.

Presents: Avoid plastic toys/gifts. Check out Waste not Want not South Street Bridport for gift ideas, try Charity shops such as Vinted or eBay for pre-loved gifts. Alternative gifts: charities such as Ripple Effect, World Wildlife Fund, Embrace the Middlle East. Reduce number of gifts, try a family Secret Santa.

Wapping: Wrapping paper made from recycled or sustainably sourced materials marked by the Forest Stewardship Logo. Avoid glitter. Use paper sticky tape or string.

Christmas Trees: Buy a small live tree locally, preferably with roots, to repot afterwards for next year. Make your own decorations, for ideas check out Holly & Co.

Feast: Buy sustainably produced foods from local farms, sources, and shops. Turkey and ham leftovers can be sliced, wrapped, and frozen. Christmas pudding lasts for several days and birds will always be thankful for any crumbs. Leftovers make good soups.
