There was a palpable buzz as St Mary’s Church quickly filled up and expectations were high as Peter Brook, Chairman of the Friends, introduced Peter Nardone and Jonathan Delbridge, internationally acclaimed musicians on Organ and Piano. Judith Hansen, Church Warden, warmly welcomed Peter and Jonathan as they opened the concert with a delightful piano duet, followed by a beautiful, gentle, rendition of Andante by Mozart.
Ave Maria, a haunting and much-loved favourite, was followed by a kaleidoscope of pieces from jaunty to lyrical and then, for a fleeting moment, we were transported back in time to Listen with Mother with the Dolly Suite by Faure.
We were spellbound as the concert drew to a close, but not before a fabulous interpretation of The Aquarium by Saint-Saens, accompanied by the tinkling of the spinning star set high above our heads.
Peter Brook thanked Peter and Jonathan for their superb performance and invited everyone to stay for tea and delicious cakes.
The afternoon’s entertainment, held on 25 September, was a delight and I would like to share a few comments: “Transported into another world”; “Extraordinary energy and dexterity on the keyboard”; “Brought out the colour of the organ”; “A good team united in beautiful harmony”.
The Friends thank you for your support and are delighted to announce £1,060 was raised to help refurbish our wonderful church.
