June 2025 Eco Church Update

Good news about bees. After a devastating winter for bees when many colonies were lost, there has been an excellent recovery. After scouting bees were spotted interested in our top bar hive, a colony seems to have settled in. The difficulty was they had found a small hole and were building their combs in the space below the eco floor which is the wrong spot. Robin Cheeseman kindly went up and with care and an adapted cardboard box, managed to relocate them in the right part with their honeycomb. We are hoping they will settle happily there. The good news also is that they were well behaved and placid when disturbed, so we have good natured bees in the churchyard. Bee aware notices have been posted on the entrance gates.

Many thanks to all who contributed with cakes etc. on the 10 May for the Christian Aid cake sale in the Square. Over £500 was raised for the people of Guatamala struggling with climate change and poverty.

An opportunity to look at nature in the Churchyard in more depth will take place on Saturday morning 7 June when we hold our annual nature count. Please register on arrival at the information table.

The nature count takes place in Beaminster Churchyard from 10:30 to noon. All are welcome. You may find it helpful to bring along clipboards or notebooks, and pens or pencils. Experts will be on hand to help with identification and the results will be submitted to National Database.
