June 2026 Eco Church Update

We took part in Mountjoy School’s nature road show to celebrate David Attenborough’s 100 birthday on 8 May. I took the bug church from the churchyard, made by children at Messy Church in Summer 2024, as a visual aid. The bug church caused a lot of interest.

Also displayed was a poster of the annual Count on Nature which we are holding on Saturday 6 June in the churchyard. This is a nationwide event to monitor wildlife found in churchyards. We welcome all ages to come and take part. Bug spotting is a favourite with the children, who need to be accompanied by an adult.

We hope to have some experts to help with identification as we submit our findings to the national database. In 2025 there were 8668 records of natural life, that were submitted by over 6000 participants, representing a fantastic contribution to the understanding of the ecological value of these special places.

We have seen scout bees investigating the top-bar hive so hope to have a colony in residence soon.

We’ve added oxygenating plants to the water feature in the hope of encouraging dragonflies.
