Looking back on the events towards the end of September:
Harvest Weekend in the church not only celebrated flowers and produce, but showed what Beaminster Community Organisations had to offer as well. We had lots of interested visitors and information was shared. Gifts in groceries and money for the Food Bank were good. Many thanks to all who contributed and made the event a success.
The Beaminster Big Green Day was blessed with fine weather as it was outside in Beaminster School grounds this year. There were many interesting stalls with local growers and farmers, renewable technology, community groups, wood working and tool sharpening, children’s activities etc. The WI did us proud with delicious cakes which added to the Wobbly Cottage Bakery’s gift of scones, cream provided by Liberty Dairies and tea, coffee, jam by our Co-op. A steady flow of interested people again. Thanks again to BAEG who worked so hard and others who took part.
An exciting recent update is the offer of a good pre-used Top Bar Hive for bees at a good price and offer of help to set it up in the churchyard. As it already has some comb and propolis it will hopefully attract a colony of bees next spring. The difficult weather this year has meant the loss of many bee colonies. We are sowing the bare earth spoil with wild flowers to attract more insects.
Reminder: Local Food Resilience talk Tuesday 19 November 19:00 for 19:30 at The Pavilion, Memorial Playing Fields Beaminster. Entrance free, refreshments available
