Advent Reflection 26

An Advent reflection by Fiona Beale.

Read

Isaiah 9:6 For a child has been born for us,
    a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders;
    and he is named
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Reflect

When reflecting upon this passage, one word comes to mind and that is adoration. How much do we use adoration within our daily prayers to God I wonder? Evelyn Underhill, an incredible mystic of her day, states that ‘we can never adore enough’. I really do support this, it is an essential response to God. At Christmas we sing ‘O come let us adore Him.’ But adoration is not just simply for the Christmas season, it is for all seasons.

Pray

Lord, to you belongs all glory, honour and power, You are a Mighty God, our everlasting Father, the Prince of peace, Lord help us to praise your glorious name, show us how to adore you more. Amen.

Act

I wonder if you spend time just writing the different names for God you know down on a piece of paper, then spend some time today just praising God’s glorious name, using all the names.
