The Friends of St Mary’s Church are delighted to bring you an enthralling talk by Brian Earl, well-known local historian and raconteur. He will be talking on The Ancient History of Beaminster Church (as seen by the Tudors) in St Mary’s Church Beaminster on 20 March at 2.30pm.
Brian will be spinning the dials of his time machine to take us back 500 years to March 1526 and to give us a glimpse of the history of Beaminster’s church from that Tudor perspective.
Henry VIII is on the throne, but the Church of England has yet to be invented. The Church building is relatively new, but what, if anything, has preceded it?
What about the supposed minister in Saxon times? How did the dedication to St Mary come about? Visibility so far back in the mists of time is inevitably compromised, but making educated guesses can be fun too.
Brian will be delighted to answer questions afterwards so, if there’s anything you’d like to ask, this is the perfect opportunity.
The talk will be followed by tea and delicious cakes.
Entry is free – everyone is invited. Donations welcome
