Advent Reflection 03

“But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.'” – Matthew 1:20.

This verse should resonate with us in lockdown. Like Joseph and Mary we are in a worrying situation.

Joseph was in a similar position, except he had to travel and we shouldn’t. But imagine their stress and problems: Mary unmarried and about to have a baby, in a traditional society, Joseph at a loss and having to go home.

Then everything changes. An image comes into his mind, assures him having the baby is fine, and Mary is his wife. What a gift, lifting their problems and expanding their perceptions.

Huge gifts suddenly come to us from nowhere, images help us unravel stress, and we have to recognize and accept them. They will not come to all of us but perhaps we will all see something more clearly.

Prayer – Let us use this period to be open to ideas and images in the mind.

Action – Ring people up and listen.
