Advent Reflection 11

An Advent reflection by Neville Adams.

Read

Malachi 3:4 Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years.

Reflect

Offerings or sacrifices are frequently mentioned in the Old Testament, motivated by the need to honour God  and give thanks for his goodness. Recently we commemorated all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in two world wars as well as subsequent conflicts. At Christmas we celebrate God’s son, Jesus, a baby  that  made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could inherit eternal life. So may the spirit of Christmas be a permanent reminder, that as Christians we should, in return, using the gifts that God gave us, make our sacrifices by giving support to our church, support to those in need, and those who suffer loneliness.  In the words of Hebrews,Chapter 13  ‘ Do not neglect to do good, and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Pray

Lord, may we, through your grace, offer ourselves, and never count the cost. Amen

Act

What sacrifices can we make in the service of Jesus Christ?
