Advent Reflection 13

An Advent reflection by Richard Kirlew.

Read

Malachi 4:2 But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.

Reflect

With a background in farming, this passage really sings out to me. If we have witnessed cattle being turned out to fresh grass in spring, after being in a cooped up in a fold yard all winter, we see them go completely crazy, chasing around and getting the warm sun on their backs.

This reading talks of how we spend Advent – the time we spend waiting for Our Lord to come. Then at Christmas, “the sun of righteousness comes” into our lives, as a tiny baby, warming our backs and making us leap like the calves in the reading.

Pray

Lord God, during this time of Advent, waiting for you to come to us, we pray that we may be filled with your love and the warmth only you can give. Amen.

Act

Take time to talk to someone who doesn’t come to church, about what Advent is.
