An Advent reflection by Jo Neary.
Read
Micah 5:2 But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah,
who are one of the little clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to rule in Israel,
whose origin is from of old,
from ancient days.
Reflect
One of the most joyful times of my week is singing songs with our toddler group on a Monday morning. Enthusiasm and delight abound as they jump up and down, join in, clap and learn to use their voices. Huge joy is created by the smallest people I worship alongside each week. Amazing things can come from tiny beginnings – from the smallest acorn the vast oak appears. Bethlehem, the town or fortified city, 10 km south of Jerusalem. Not the grandest place, but a beginning place, a birthplace. Now sadly a place of division.
Pray
Prince of peace, thank you for little things that inspire or delight us. Bring peace where there is division. Bring peace in Bethlehem. Amen.
Act
Look up Bethlehem on a map or find out something about the town. Listen to a Christmas carol that mentions Bethlehem. Remind yourself that amazing things can come from humble beginnings.
