Advent Reflection 01

An Advent reflection by Sarah Keen.

Read

Jeremiah 33:14 The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfil the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.

Reflect

The message from Jeremiah is one of hope.  In his historical context he is looking forward to a time when the Jewish captivity in Babylon will end as God fulfils his promise to David in 2 Samuel 7 that his kingdom will last forever.  In our time, we are looking forward to celebrating the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, whose blood formed a new covenant between God and ourselves freeing us from the captivity of sin.

Pray

Dear Lord, Be with us as we look forward to celebrating the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to wait patiently and prayerfully as the joyful day of Christmas approaches. Amen.

Act

Take some time today to reflect how best to spend Advent.  Think how you might step away from the rush of Christmas shopping and find space to read the Bible Nativity story, sing carols and enjoy the anticipation of Christ’s coming.
