Advent Reflection 10

An Advent reflection by David Shearlock.

Read

Malachi 3:3 he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the Lord in righteousness

Reflect

These words were written over 450 years before Christ so they shouldn’t be taken as a direct prophecy of his advent. Rather, we can think of them as words of preparation for an unknown time when God will appear. When that happens, as happen it will, what will he find in us? Will we be purified and refined like silver and gold or do we need to take action now, so that the offering of ourselves may become worthy and acceptable to him?

Pray

Lord, during this season of Advent, as we celebrate the coming of your kingdom: with the help of your Holy Spirit may the love and compassion which you give to us be reflected in the purity of our own lives.

Act

Is there some aspect of my life which I couldn’t possibly present to God? If so, how shall I set about purifying and refining that area?
