Advent Reflection 21

“Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.'” – Matthew 2:13

Reflection

“Did you hear what I was saying?”, says Rob. “Yes, I’m listening.” I reply. But we both know it’s not always true, especially if I don’t like what Rob’s telling me or what he’s asking me to do.

When God spoke to Joseph His instructions must have been so difficult to listen to. God told him to gather up his family and travel miles to become refugees in a strange country. What energy and courage that demanded.

But Joseph did listen and he obeyed God because he loved and trusted Him completely. What a wonderful example for us.

Pray

Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.
Grant us ears to hear,
Eyes to see,
Wills to obey,
Hearts to love.
( Christina Rossetti)

Act

God is longing for us to listen to Him. Try and find a moment during the day, no matter how short, to stop, be still and just listen.
