Advent Reflections 2022 #20

Advent was and is…

  • the buzz of children’s excitement on the 1st, Christmas is coming (at last)
  • the trip to the loft, to dust off that box of decorations
  • the joy of choosing the perfect, unexpected present for someone
  • setting out the Playmobil Nativity set to be played with, not just admired from afar
  • choosing a decoration put up in the house each day
  • singing carols with family and friends
  • a family walk around the village to see the lit-up advent windows
  • Blue Peter’s tinsel advent candle thing made from wire coat hangers
  • inventing a new Christmas card for thirty pairs of hands to make
  • strange foods appearing in the front room: bowls of nuts and sticky dates
  • last minute present wrapping
  • the sigh of relief and happiness on the last day of term
  • counting the number of Christmas trees lit-up in windows, walking home from school
  • counting down the numbers of doors left on the advent calendar
  • waiting and waiting to see at last, what was behind door 24

…the gift of Jesus’ love,

which we can choose share with those around us, and not just for Christmas.
